PASSION OUTSIDE OF DAY JOB

At the center of Daneeque Chamberlain’s job as Director of Security & Guest Experience at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, is leading teams that make complex events feel seamless.

In the post for five months after more than eight years at the 63,400-capacity home of the NFL’s Cardinals, Chamberlain has check-marked several high-profile recent events including working four FIFA World Cup matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and watching Bad Bunny’s halftime show at Levi’s Stadium, after assisting VIPs through a field tunnel.

One of her favorite shows of the year wasn’t at State Farm, but it had its start there.

“Few people know that Beyoncé and her production team spent a month at State Farm Stadium building and rehearsing for her world tour – although we did not host a public show,” offers Chamberlain. “Going through this experience provided me a deeper appreciation for the work that touring crews put in to provide fans with unforgettable memories.”

After rehearsals, Chamberlain and stadium staff got to see Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter Tour” opening night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Chamberlain started her career as an intern on the sports side in baseball, hockey and college football bowl games.
“After working in these spaces, I realized I enjoyed more of the overall event experience and not just sports,” says Chamberlain. “Once I had this realization, I knew the stadium was where I wanted to be.”

With her mind-set, persistence paid off. She applied and interviewed at the stadium, located in Glendale, a short distance from Phoenix, three different times for three different roles before being hired as an event coordinator.

“In that first year, I was able to assist with the Taylor Swift ‘Reputation Tour’ – two weeks of concert rehearsals, one private dress rehearsal and a sold-out world tour opener,” recalls Chamberlain. “The moment the lights dropped and the Pixmob wristbands and screams filled the stadium, I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be.”
She landed where she was meant to be, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t challenges.

Chamberlain says the hardest part of the job is “preparing for and preventing incidents so they never happen.” On the personal side, it’s “knowing when to stop and take a break. I want to do all things at once and put a lot of pressure on myself to get everything done, but in most situations, I need to slow down and take things one chunk at a time.”
