Soundgarden To Reunite For Seattle Seahawks NFL Halftime Show; Taylor Momsen To Handle Vocals

Soundgarden is set to perform during halftime of the NFL’s season opener in Seattle on Wednesday, Sept. 9, with Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless handling vocals and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready joining for the occasion.

The news comes from an announcement from the band, one of the leaders of the ’90s grunge explosion that formed in Seattle, which includes few other details other than “GO HAWKS!!” The NFL opener, to take place at Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks, is a Super Bowl LX rematch between the Hawks and New England Patriots, a contest that saw Seattle come out on top in February by a score of 29-13.

The game is set to air on NBC and Peacock. It’s unclear if the halftime show will be broadcast live.

Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell died in 2017, effectively meaning the end of the band, which was on tour at the time. The gifted singer, songwriter and guitarist was largely responsible for the band’s sound and played the role of classic rockstar frontman – with more than enough pipes to back it up.

Momsen has experience with the band already, as The Pretty Reckless opened for Soundgarden on its final tour and has lent guest vocals for the band at tribute shows as well as their 2025 Rock and Roll Half Of Fame Induction.

Original Soundgarden members Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil have confirmed that a final Soundgarden studio album featuring unreleased vocals recorded by Cornell is in the works with a hopeful 2027 release. Cameron, original drummer for Soundgarden, had until recently been part of Pearl Jam for more than 25 years, recording multiple studio albums as well as serving as its regular touring drummer until parting ways with the fellow Seattle grunge favorites in 2025.
