Dates Set For Wicked: Part One In Concert

Fans will get to experience the unforgettable songs of the blockbusters films “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” in a whole new way as they are transformed into live-to-film concert experiences.
The 2024 and 2025 films directed by Jon M. Chu are based on the beloved Broadway musical, which was inspired by a 1995 novel of the same name and offers a different look at the world dreamed up by L. Frank Baum in his 1990 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation. “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” feature Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, along with Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, and Marissa Bode, with songs including “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good.”
As an announcement explains, the films will be “projected on a massive HD screen while orchestras perform Grammy and Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz’s iconic songs and the unforgettable score by Oscar® nominee John Powell and Schwartz live-to-picture.”
Created in collaboration with Universal Film, Universal Destinations & Experiences and Hurwitz Concerts, the concerts begin with a special preview on Jan. 16 at San Francisco’s The Orpheum Theatre and then the official premiere of “Wicked: Part One In Concert” starts Jan. 23 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
“From Broadway to the multiplex, Wicked is an enduring global phenomenon,” said David O’Connor, Chief Brand Officer at Universal Entertainment. “It is a privilege to partner with Hurwitz Concerts to bring these beloved films to the live-to-screen format, allowing audiences to return to Oz and defy gravity like never before.”
Gerald Raines, Senior Vice President of Live Entertainment & Licensing at Universal Destinations & Experiences, added: “We are always looking for new ways to bring fans closer to the stories they love, and this concert experience does exactly that. IIt extends the journey beyond the films, celebrating the music, emotion and storytelling that have connected with audiences around the globe while creating a shared live experience fans can enjoy together.”
Film composer Justin Hurwitz’s Hurwitz Concerts has previously toured La La Land in Concert and Whiplash in Concert since 2023 and this marks the first time the company has gotten into producing concerts of films not scored by Hurwitz.
“I absolutely love the live-to-film format and think the Wicked films are so perfect for it,” Hurwitz said. “It’s an honor for me to help bring Stephen Schwartz’s masterpiece musical and John Powell and Schwartz’s brilliant, cinematic score to concert venues around the world.”
