Alex Hodges is much more than an All-Star. As one of the most influential figures in live entertainment over the past four decades, the veteran Nederlander Concerts executive was inducted into the IEBA Hall of Fame and was also honored by his contemporaries at last year’s Oak View Group Theater Alliance Gala with an Impact Award.
He helped shape the live entertainment landscape in Los Angeles having worked at the legendary Universal Amphitheatre—a beloved venue where notable industry executives such as the late Larry Vallon, AEG Presents CEO Jay Marciano and Emily Simonitsch, Live Nation’s SVP of Talent Booking on the West Coast, worked. That’s not to mention his previous time as manager or agent for legendary artists like Otis Redding, The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others at the height of their fame.
Honoring Hodges at the Theater Alliance Gala, Simonitsch referred to him as a “Southern gentleman” who mentored her and “supported my efforts in growing the Latin music space” at the Universal Amphitheatre, which became a popular destination for rock en español and regional Mexican acts.
Hodges continues to add to his legacy in Southern California with Nederlander’s latest venture: the West Harbor Amphitheater in San Pedro.
FIFA World Cup fans got a taste of the new 6,200-cap outdoor amphitheater, which was an official L.A. Fan Zone, as well as the remainder of the $500 million renovated 42-acre waterfront, which also features restaurants, breweries and the iconic San Pedro Fish Market. The amphitheater operated by Nederlander was the talk of the town in the summer, and fans will have plenty more to say when the venue hosts its opening concert season in 2027.
“Stevie Ray Vaughan said music heals, and it does,” Hodges said when accepting his Impact Award at the Theater Alliance Gala last October. “Music touches our hearts. Live events will be forever. There is no ending to that story.”
