With Hillsborough County and the Tampa Bay Lightning making a major commitment to keep the NHL franchise and Benchmark International Arena downtown for the long term, Kelli Yeloushan may have her hands full until 2043.

In January, Hillsborough County approved an agreement that could provide up to $358.5 million in public funding for renovations to the arena, which opened in 1996. The Tampa Sports Authority is the arena’s landlord, while the venue is operated by the Lightning’s ownership group, Vinik Sports Group (VSG). Under the agreement, the Lightning’s lease will be extended through the 2042-43 season, and the team will contribute at least $75 million toward the renovations.

The arena is also an important anchor in the continued development of downtown Tampa and Water Street as a broader sports and entertainment district. Strategic Property Partners and VSG have proposed a privately financed development across from the arena that would include a 3,500-capacity live entertainment venue.

What do you consider your greatest success over the last year?
Having a record-breaking year with an incredible team. We’re fortunate to have a team that works hard but that also knows how to enjoy the moment! The industry continues to be incredibly competitive; we’ve focused on staying aggressive, being solution-oriented, and not afraid to take chances.

What’s your take on the general health of the live market?
The market is healthy, but it’s evolving. Consumers are selective about where they spend their dollars, so delivering a great experience has never been more important.

How has your company improved the fan experience?
Being voted No. 1 in guest experience in the NHL is something we’re proud of, and we carry that same mindset into every event. We want fans to leave remembering not just the show, but how enjoyable the entire experience was.”
