Boxoffice Insider: Latin And Country Artists Have Almost One-Quarter Of 2024’s Top Tours
Artists in the Latin and country music genres have been among the most successful at the box office at live music venues in 2024, with 22 of them ranked among the 100 highest-grossing tours worldwide since the beginning of January. Bad Bunny, Luis Miguel, Karol G and Luke Combs have the four highest-grossing tours in both genres, each with more than $100 million from ticket sales at shows occurring Jan. 1 through July 15. And Bad Bunny, at No. 1, is the only artist to gross over $200 million during that time frame.
The Puerto Rican rapper/singer is also the only Latin or country artist with an average ticket price topping $200. With his $279.98 average, he racked up $210.9 million in grosses from 753,287 sold tickets at 49 shows on his “Most Wanted Tour.” Set in North American arenas, the tour launched in Salt Lake City on Feb. 21 and wrapped on June 9 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Miguel, ranked second, also played arenas in North America but began his 2024 schedule with a string of stadium shows in Latin American countries. His gross from 69 performances at venues in the Americas, along with five recent shows in Spain, totals $157.2 million. With an overall ticket count of 1,152,128, he is one of only two Latin or country artists to sell more than 1 million tickets since January.
The other is Karol G, third on the list with a gross of $131.4 million from 1,205,519 sold tickets at 41 concerts. The Colombian singer’s “Mañana Será Bonito Tour” also played stadiums in Latin America this year from February through May, but in June her tour headed to Europe for a string of sold-out arena dates in eight countries.
At No. 4 with $110.5 million, Luke Combs has the top-ranked country tour and is the only artist in the genre to top the $100 million threshold. His attendance of 829,462 is the highest of the country stars and third highest, behind Miguel and Karol G, among all 22 artists in the two genres.
Aventura, No. 5, is right on the cusp of $100 million with grosses totaling $99.6 million from 46 concerts on the band’s farewell trek, attended by 619,338 fans. The remainder of the top 10 artists, however, are all country headliners led by Kenny Chesney at No. 6, followed by Zach Bryan, Tim McGraw, George Strait and Tyler Childers.
Chesney grossed $91.3 million from 21 performances at both stadiums and amphitheaters on his “Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour,” while Bryan’s 25 shows at 16 North American arenas moved 412,880 tickets for a $75.4 million gross. McGraw grossed $51.2 million on his “Standing Room Only Tour” that drew 461,911 country music fans to 45 concerts.
Strait’s $38.1 million in ticket revenue comes from his first three stadium shows in Indianapolis, Indiana; Jacksonville, Florida; and Ames, Iowa. His attendance from all three totaled 151,027. Childers played 29 shows at 26 venues, ranging from theaters and clubs in Europe to sheds and arenas in North America. His worldwide gross totaled $30.7 million from 363,031 sold tickets.
Of the remaining 12 tours, the genres are split evenly with six in the Latin category and six in country. Representing Latin are Don Omar, Los Temerarios, Feid, Marc Anthony, Ana Gabriel and the co-headlining trek by Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin and Pitbull. The six country tours belong to Kane Brown, Blake Shelton, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, HARDY and Riley Green.
