Definitely Maybe: Gallagher Brothers Hint At Oasis Reunion
Speculation is rampant that one of the biggest bands of 1990s could play their first shows in more than 15 years, as Oasis’s famously fractious Gallagher brothers are fueling rumors that the band will return in 2025.
A report from the Sunday Times, citing “industry insiders,” said plans were in the works for as many as 10 shows at Wembley Stadium — which would break Taylor Swift’s eight-night run — along with performances at Heaton Park in Liam and Noel Gallagher’s native Manchester. A Glastonbury headline spot was also a possibility, according to those sources.
Oasis broke up in 2009 after a backstage fight when Liam damaged Noel’s guitar. It was the culmination of more than a decade of sniping and altercations between the two. The brothers have continued on their own since, playing a mix of originals and Oasis songs.
In recent months, as the 30th anniversary of Definitely Maybe has been feted, the brothers have shown deeper appreciation for one another in interviews, with each praising the abilities of the other and acknowledging their respective contributions. Liam dedicated his performance of “Half The World Away” at his Sunday headlining spot at Reading Festival to Noel.
After the Times report, the official Oasis website along with the brothers’ social media page flashed the date “27.8.24” (that’s Aug. 27 to American readers) in a typeface that evokes the band’s classic styling.
On their own social media, the brothers have done little to tamp down the rumors. Responding to one interlocutor who suggested that Heaton Park wasn’t an adequate venue for concert performances, Liam said “See you down the front …”
In 105 headlining reports submitted to Pollstar Boxoffice, Oasis grossed $46.3 million, selling nearly 960,000 tickets.
