REO Speedwagon Retires Due To ‘Irreconcilable Differences’
REO Speedwagon announced their retirement on Sept. 16, citing “irreconcilable differences” between frontman Kevin Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall.
The news came following the wrap of REO Speedwagon’s co-headline tour with Train, “Summer Road Trip,” from which Hall was absent and replaced by Matt Bissonette as he recovered from back surgery. Cronin had emergency surgery earlier this month, leading to the cancelation of dates in Chula Vista, California and Phoenix on Sept. 10 and 11.
“To our fans: Bruce has intended to be Back On the Road Again by now,” the band’s statement on socail media said. “If it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it’s not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect. Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt has been around to keep the Wagon rolling through the summer tour. Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking way from the band, fans and crew he has loved for almost 50 years. For Kevin’s part, he too has never had any intention of leaving the band, and the fans and crew mean the world to him, as well. Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differencs arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025.”
REO Speedwagon is booked by CAA’s Mitch Rose in Canada and the United States, and by UTA’s Neil Warnock in Europe. JEP Entertainment Group, Inc’s Jorge Pinos books the band in Central and South America. They’re managed by TC Management’s Tom Consolo.
REO Speedwagon has several dates still on the books with stops at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and more. Their last scheduled date is at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas on Dec. 21.
Highlights from reported dates to Pollstar’s Boxoffice on REO Speedwagon and Train’s “Summer Road Trip” include a $166,426 gross at Old National Events Plaza in Evansville, Indiana, on June 25. Their June 12 date at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota, grossed $268,985.
