Former Sony exec Adam Wright has been named CFO and managing partner at Breakaway, which among its operations produces Breakaway Music Festivals and other events in more than 10 cities.

In the new role, Wright will drive strategic initiatives, corporate development, brand expansion and overall financial operations for Breakaway. Wright recently served as vice president of corporate development and M&A at Sony Corporation.

“Adam Wright’s financial pedigree and industry background at one of the most recognizable names in music will fuel BREAKAWAY’s growth as we extend our geographic footprint and add new business verticals,” Breakaway CEO and co-founder Adam Lynn said.

Along with expanding into 10 markets in 2024, Breakaway has launched new divisions, opened new offices and says it has doubled revenue year over year.

“I’ve enjoyed watching BREAKAWAY scale from a touring music festival into an integrated entertainment platform that’s transforming how millions of people nationwide experience and enjoy music,” Wright said. “This is a pivotal time for the brand and I’m thrilled to collaborate with these innovative trailblazers in the music industry. I’m excited to apply my skill set to driving the business to new heights.”

Wright joins Breakaway after most recently leading his own investment and advisory firm. During his time at Sony, Wright’s transactions included the acquisition of EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV’s buyout of the Estate of Michael Jackson, and Sony Music Japan’s strategic investment and partnership in Peanuts Holdings, according to the announcement. Adam also led early-stage investments in Community, Tixr and OISHII among many others. Prior to joining Sony, Adam held investment banking positions at Jefferies Inc. and Citigroup.

Upcoming Breakaway events include Breakaway Nashville, which takes place Oct. 11-12 at Fair Park featuring Tiesto, Louis The Child, Marshmello and Alison Wonderland. Breakaway Carolina takes place this weekend, with Alesso, Fisher, Marshmello, and many others at the Zmax Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway Sept. 27-28.
