Austin City Limits To Solely Use Hybrid Battery System

Austin City Limits is teaming up with REVERB’s Music Decarbonization Project to power the IHG Hotels & Resorts stage entirely on a hybrid battery system. All audio, lighting, video and stage production will be powered by the system, minimizing the runtime of biodiesel generators. Additionally, tents at ACL Eats, the festival’s West Entrance and several backstage areas will also be powered by hybrid battery systems.

The hybrid battery system expands on last year’s battery-powered main stage at Lollapalooza, C3 aiming to continue sustainable festival practices across all their events.

ACL takes place Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13 at Austin’s Zilker Park with a lineup featuring Chris Stapleton, Dua Lipa, Tyler, the Creator, blink-182, Pretty Lights, Sturgill Simpson, Leon Bridges, Khruangbin, Chappell Roan and many more.

“Following this year’s highly successful and history-making battery-powered main stage at Lollapalooza, we are excited to bring this sustainable solution to Austin City Limits Music Festival,” Jake Perry, Director of Operations and Sustainability at C3 Presents said in a statement. “We have set a goal to build a more sustainable future for music festivals, which involves implementing solutions that make our operations more energy efficient and reinventing how we look at power. We are grateful to REVERB’s Decarbonization Project for their partnership in helping us move closer to our goals.”

Additional sustainable practices taking place at this year’s ACL include recycling and composting, Electrolit Hydration Stations providing free, filtered water with the aim of diverting plastic from landfill, Biodiesel utilized in all diesel engines across the festival site and more. The festival is also partnering with Food for All Project to donate any uneaten backstage meals to people in need.
