Chart Scene: Billie Eilish Has Top 10 Debut On Artist Power Index With New Tour
Billie Eilish makes her debut on the Artist Power Index at No. 8 after launching “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour” in support of her third studio album, released in May. With more than 80 arena dates booked in North America, Australia and Europe through next summer, she kicked off the tour in Canada at Quebec City’s Vidéotron Centre on Sep. 29. A total of 17,931 fans attended the opening performance that also featured Mat and Alex Wolff as show openers. The gross from the event reached $1.64 million.
Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 leg of the tour will continue through Dec. 17 in the U.S. and Canada, wrapping for the year with five shows at Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Then in 2025, she will play multiple shows in three Australian cities in February and March before heading to Europe for the final run of dates from April through July.
The nine-time Grammy Award winner last toured with her “Happier Than Ever” trek in 2022 and 2023, grossing over $127 million worldwide from more than 1.15 million sold tickets. She played 79 headlining concerts at arenas in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania on that tour.
Along with Eilish, the only other artist to debut on the Artist Power Index is Sabrina Carpenter, ranked No. 25 following the kickoff of her “Short n’ Sweet Tour.” The pop singer began the North American leg of the tour on Sep. 23 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, with 32 more arena concerts planned in U.S. and Canadian cities throughout the fall. The Los Angeles market will host her final three shows this year, beginning with a performance at Crypto.com Arena on Nov. 15 followed by two shows at Kia Forum on Nov. 17 and 18.
Also on the Artist Power Index, Post Malone makes a one-position move up to No. 1 based on the opening run of shows on his “F-1 Trillion” tour set in stadiums and amphitheaters stateside through October. The first 13 concerts on the tour land in the chart eligibility period for APX, beginning with the opener on Sep. 8 in Salt Lake City through his Oct. 1 show at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He was also on the road in North America last year playing outdoor amphitheaters during July and August, averaging a gross of $1.82 million and 19,858 sold tickets per show.
LIVE75 also has a new No. 1 tour in this issue as Coldplay appears in the top spot for the third time in 2024. The band held the top ranking for two consecutive weeks – the Feb. 26 and March 4 issues – based on ticket sales at stadiums in Asian cities early in the year. This week, they take the top ranking with sales figures reported from the last two venues on this summer’s European trek from June through August.
Four sold-out concerts at Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna and another four at Dublin’s Croke Park Stadium produced a sold-ticket count of 580,599 to average 72,574 tickets per show which scores the No. 1 ranking. The group also has “Heavy Hitter” status with an average gross from the eight shows totaling $10.3 million, the highest of any touring headliner on the chart.
The highest-ranked debut on LIVE75 belongs to the bands Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago, co-headliners this year on a string of shed and arena dates from July 10 through Sept. 14. From 10 of the most recent shows on the trek, the groups averaged 11,639 sold seats per show to take the No. 12 ranking. San Diego-area fans numbered the most among the markets represented in this week’s tallies, as Chula Vista, California’s North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre sold 17,571 tickets, the highest of the 10 venues. That performance on Aug. 31 produced a gross of $1.03 million with tickets ranging from $35.50 to $499.50.
LIVE75’s “Breakthrough” touring headliner with the best sellout percentage from the most sold-out shows is comedian Chonda Pierce who lands at No. 55. Her sold-ticket average of 1,167 per show is based on eight recent performances, seven of which drew capacity crowds. Her top attendance was 1,472 at Odell Williamson Auditorium in Bolivia, North Carolina, Sep. 13.
