AGENCY ACUMEN | “If you’re looking for someone to smash and grab without strategy, I’m not the agent for you.”

Elisa Vazzana’s inspiration comes from a drawing of deceased Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on her office wall.

“[She was] just a complete badass who never let being a woman stop her from achieving her dreams, regardless of what societal standards told her,” Vazzana said. The drawing “reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: ‘Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you.’”

She added that women are empowered now more than ever, to be unapologetically authentic and use their voices in meaningful ways.

“Historically, we’ve always had a few badass women who buck the system and do things their own way, and to those we owe a lot of gratitude,” Vazzana said. “The days of sitting quiet and blindly obeying are drying up.”

Today, women are more accepting of the idea that they don’t have to fit into a safe mold and be for everyone, she noted.

“It is incumbent upon us, those in decision making positions, to continue to support women for who they are and amplify their voices,” Vazzana said.

And Vazzana is playing a big part in supporting women in the industry. She noted that watching Megan Moroney at Lollapalooza was one of the best moments of last year.

“I remember walking around the site with one of her managers and she looked at me and said ‘Are you sure we’re going to have a crowd? This doesn’t look like our fanbase.’ I said, ‘You’re about to find out what a Megan Moroney fan looks like outside of the country festival bubble. They are going to lose their minds,’” Vazzana said. “Fast forward to a massive crowd with everyone screaming every word to every song of the set. It was such a magical moment for Megan and one I’ll never forget.”

Vazzana’s focus is on long-term building of a touring career that allows artists to tour at their own discretion. “I tell artists all the time if you’re looking for someone to smash and grab without strategy, I’m not the agent for you,” she said. “If you oversaturate, price gouge and burn markets to the ground you’re left with nowhere to go but down or stagnant, if you’re lucky.”
