David Byrne’s 2nd Annual ‘Amazing’ Variety Show Set To Return In May

David Byrne is bringing his one-night only variety show, “Amazing Humans Doing Amazing Things,” back for a second edition. The annual benefit show promises to feature “internationally renowned performance, musical and comedy acts, on-stage revelry and joyous communal experiences.” 

The “Amazing” event, which is emceed by Byrne, is set for May 29 at the Town Hall in New York City. 

The lineup boasts “comedian and actor Ramy Youssef, multi-hyphenate musician Reggie Watts, gospel soul group Annie and The Caldwells, multidisciplinary theater artist and magician Steve Cuiffo, NYC-based artist, dancer, burlesque artist, stage director, and actress Julie Atlas Muz, and Zlatne Uste Balkan Brass Band, the foremost presenters of traditional Balkan brass music in the US,” with more acts to be announced.  The show is directed by Jenny Koons (Oedipus Deaf West, Blue Man Group National Tour), produced by Jes Mack (A Broken Umbrella Theatre) and executive produced by Emily Simoness (Founding Executive Director SPACE on Ryder Farm).

“Reasons to be Cheerful is all about finding signs of hope, even when it feels like it’s in short supply. That’s what this show is all about: a joyful communal experience to buoy us in a tumultuous time,” Byrne said in a statement.

Proceeds benefit Byrne’s nonprofit news magazine “Reasons to be Cheerful,” which is the flagship project of Byrne’s nonprofit Arbutus. The reader-supported publication features “award-winning journalism about solutions and progress for an annual audience of over one million readers.” Sold-out live events hosted by “Reasons to be Cheerful” have previously taken place in Portland, Oregon, and Waterville, Maine.

Tickets for “Amazing Humans Doing Amazing Things” are on sale now via Ticketmaster. Premium “More Cheerful” tickets are available with perks such as premium seats, a David Byrne-signed memento and an invitation to a private reception.
