This Week’s Top Tour: Metallica Claims Top LIVE75 Ranking After Resuming ‘M72’ Tour

Metallica moves up one position to claim the top ranking on LIVE75 after debuting at No. 2 last week based on ticket sales at three recent stadium shows. The heavy metal titans are back on the chart after resuming their “M72 World Tour” on April 19 with performances in two North American cities, the first of 13 booked in Canada and the U.S. through June.
One sold-out show at JMA Wireless in Syracuse, New York and two at Rogers Centre in Toronto moved a total of 137,620 sold tickets for a per-night average of 45,873 to earn the top ranking. Combined grosses from both venues hit $15.2 million for an average of $5.06 million per show.
Now beginning its third year since launching in April 2023, the tour supporting 72 Seasons, Metallica’s most recent studio album released two weeks ahead of the tour, has grossed over $340 million so far from more than 2.9 million sold tickets at 49 stadium concerts. While most of the tour’s performances have occurred in Europe and North America, the group is planning a jaunt through Oceania and the Middle East at the end of this year. Then, in 2026, a final run of European dates will stretch from May through July.
Post Malone follows at No. 2 on LIVE75 with a ticket average of 45,596 – just 277 tickets less than Metallica’s average – based on three of his own recent stadium events. The singer/rapper’s “Big Ass Stadium Tour” kicked off on April 29 and drew 136,788 fans to the first three concerts, grossing $21.3 million for a $7.1 million per-show average.
Two other artists, however, have gross averages higher than Metallica and Malone, as Beyoncé earns LIVE75’s “Heavy Hitter” status as the headliner with the top gross average for a second consecutive week. She averaged $11.1 million per concert at her five-show “Cowboy Carter” tour opener at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, April 28-May 9.
Also with an average gross topping $10 million is Julion Alvarez who is this week’s “Hot Shot” touring artist with the highest ranked debut on the chart. He is third overall with a sold-ticket average of 44,031 from three stadium performances, April 17-19, also at SoFi Stadium. With a total gross just over $30 million, his average comes to $10,000,296 per concert.
Along with Alvarez, 28 other artists debut on LIVE75, including two more in the top 10. Dead & Company bows at No. 7 with reported ticket sales from nine of the band’s 18 shows booked at Sphere in Las Vegas this spring. Then, Andrea Bocelli takes the ninth ranking after performing three arena concerts in the U.K., one at Co-op Live in Manchester and two at The O2 in London.
On the Artist Power Index, only four performers make their debut appearance this week. The first is Hozier who lands at No. 32 on the chart after resuming his “Unreal Unearth” tour at Bogotá, Colombia’s Movistar Arena on May 21. More South American dates are planned in Chile, Argentina and Brazil before he brings the tour back to North America beginning in June.
Then, Avril Lavigne joins the APX lineup at No. 39 after returning to the road with her “Greatest Hits Tour” that began in 2024 in North America and Europe. The first 2025 show on the tour was a May 18 arena event in Canada at Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick. Although more arenas are on the schedule during the remainder of the tour, most of her upcoming dates this year are set in outdoor venues.
Christian music artist Forrest Frank also makes his debut on the Artist Power Index based on recent concerts during part two of his “Child of God” tour that kicked off this year in March. Part one of the tour began in July of 2024 and ran through Sep. 9, grossing $1.5 million from 48,246 sold seats at 17 shows. So far this year, with 23 of his concerts reported, 186,971 tickets have been sold with grosses totaling $9.6 million. While the opening leg of the tour was set solely in theaters, this year he is primarily playing arenas along with a handful of theater dates. Finally, Alejandro Fernández joins the Artist Power Index following the North American launch of his “De Rey a Rey” tour, a tribute to his late father Vicente Fernández. Beginning on May 10 in Seattle, Washington, the four-time Latin Grammy winner began the trek with shows in five cities on the U.S. west coast, including arena shows in California at SAP Center in San Jose and Honda Center in Anaheim, as well as a concert at Portland, Oregon’s Moda Center with 5,714 in attendance.
