‘From Ashes To Anthem’: Tomorrowland Overcomes Main Stage Fire

Tomorrowland went down across two weekends, counting more than 400,000 visitors from 200-plus countries, who witnessed the festival’s organizers overcome the loss of their main stage less than 48 hours before the gates opened on the first weekend.
A new stage structure was erected in front of the ruins, a gigantic LED wall utilizing, among other parts, some of Metallica’s touring rig, which had been stored in Austria and got airlifted to Belgium.
Festivalgoers witnessed the final touches of construction live on site, cheering on the crew as the gates reopened, according to a press release from promoters.
This feat meant that Tomorrowland’s main stage program could go ahead almost unimpeded, as the festival’s official aftermovie proves.
It also captures the many other aspects of Tomorrowland, including its many lovingly designed other stages, that dwarf the main stages of other festivals.
While all stages are art pieces in their own right, the renewed Freedom Stage stood out this year, with 300 square meters of LEDs and a kinetic floating sky, that can be witnessed in the aftermovie, too. It’s the largest indoor festival stage in the world, according to organizers.
In total the festival boasts 16 stages, graced by performers including (in alphabetical order) Agents Of Time, Alan Walker, ALOK, Amelie Lens, Andromedik, ANNA, Anyma, Argy, Armin van Buuren, Artbat, Axwell, Charlotte de Witte, David Guetta, Eric Prydz, Fisher, Hardwell, Henri PFR, HUGEL, John Newman, John Summit, Kaskade, Mahmut Orhan, MANDY, Martin Garrix, Miss Monique, NERVO, Nicky Romero, NOVAH, Odymel, Pegassi, R3HAB, Solomun, Swedish House Mafia, Vikkstar, and many more.
Many of their sets can be viewed in full on YouTube, the Tomorrowland app, or Apple Music.
