Another Planet Entertainment will be reopening The Castro Theatre in San Francisco on Feb. 10 with Sam Smith performing an eight-night residency that will run until Feb. 21. The $41 million renovation restores the historic theater, bringing the cultural landmark back to full operation.

The century-old venue’s upgrades include a refreshed neon blade and marquee, decorative ceiling and a restored chandelier. The floor now features telescoping tiers to allow for flexibility between seated shows, film screenings and standing room events.

“Our goal is to activate and re-energize the building with equity, inclusion and community at the forefront,” Gregg Perloff, CEO and Co-Founder of Another Planet Entertainment, said in a statement. “We look forward to contributing to the vibrancy and economic health of the Castro while honoring its legacy as an LGBTQ+ landmark and cultural anchor.”

Sam Smith’s residency, “To Be Free: San Francisco,” takes its name from Smith’s latest single, “To Be Free.” Tickets for the residency go on sale Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. PT.

Smith is booked by WME’s Kirk Sommer in North America and managed by Method Music’s Sam Evitt and Jack Street. With 194 headline reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice, Smith has sold a total of 2.1 million tickets, grossing $161.4 million, dating back since 2011.

Additionally bookings at the renovated venue will be announced throughout the coming months.
