Mini Dessert Chicken Bucket 4 (1)

COLD CUTS:  Yankee Stadium’s new Mini Dessert “Chicken” Bucket from Legends Global is a twist on two summertime classics: a drumstick-shaped vanilla waffle-cone ice cream featuring a chocolate-covered pretzel stick “bone” with a  coating of caramelized white chocolate and corn flakes.

Even in its second iteration, Yankee Stadium — the new Yankee Stadium that opened in 2009 replacing the iconic House That Ruth Built — is replete with tradition.

The statues of Monument Park, the short porch, the classic facade. The Yankees are baseball’s most storied franchise and their home stadium drips with the ghosts of legacy.

While concession offerings are not nearly as storied as the pinstripes or the 27 World Series titles or Lou Gehrig’s retirement speech, some items have become central to the experience of Yankee fandom, one of them being the chicken bucket.

And there’s always room to improve and expand and tweak even the most rigid traditions. Even the Bronx Bombers can wear facial hair now.

This year, Legends Global made the famous Yankee Stadium chicken bucket chillier, rolling out the Mini Dessert “Chicken” Bucket: a drumstick-shaped ice cream with a chocolate-covered pretzel center, a coating of white chocolate and candied corn flakes, served in a mini chicken bucket for $10.99.

And it was a hit as thunderous as an Aaron Judge bomb to left-center.

Buzz started even before the first pitch. The item was offered to the media in the usual pre-season concessions preview and, by the time the gates opened for fans at the Yankees’ April home opener, demand was so strong that lines for the bucket — available then at two stands, one each on the 100 and 300 levels — snaked down the concourse. Regular game-goers said it was the longest line for a new item since the debut of the Judge-honoring 99 Burger.

Legends and the Yankees anticipated they had enough to last for the entirety of the season-opening six-game homestand.

The item sold out before the start of the second game.

How good is it?

Longtime Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay is a famously picky eater — everything from eggs to bananas to soup to standard condiments are on his no-no list. But Kay will eat the stadium chicken tenders.

In fact, Kay uses a dedicated Instagram account to rank the chicken tenders at every park he visits. This is a man who takes his tenders very seriously.

And the dessert tenders?

“It looks like chicken; it’s amazing!” he exclaimed. “It’s really good.”

And his score?

“Ten. Ten. It can’t be better,” Kay said, awarding the first perfect score in the history of his account.

“There’s chocolate in there, too?!?” he said with a mouthful, offering drumsticks to the rest of the broadcast team. Even Kay, much mocked beyond the Bronx for self-seriousness, was reduced to childlike wonder at what Legends hath wrought.

As he himself might say, echoing the great John Sterling, “The Yankees win! Theeeeeeee Yankees win!”
