Goldenvoice’s Ocean Way Festival In Santa Monica Canceled Due To ‘Beach Erosion’

Just weeks before it was set to make its debut, Goldenvoice’s Ocean Way Festival on the Santa Monica beachfront has been canceled.

The City of Santa Monica nixed the event “due to the impacts of Hurricane Marie.” The Killers and Olivia Dean were billed as headliners for the two-day festival, which was supposed to take place Sept. 26-27. Other artists on the bill included Jack White, Khruangbin, Sublime, Durand Jones & The Indications, Alvvays, Hiatus Kaiyote and more.

“Storm surf and runoff has caused significant beach erosion and the festival can no longer be safely held as planned,” according to a statement from the organizers, which assured that refunds are being processed automatically.

Southern California has been hit with extreme heat and high humidity lately as a result of Tropical Storm Marie, which caused coastal flooding and beach erosion throughout local beaches, including Malibu and Long Beach.

Ocean Way was billed as a landmark event for both the promoter and the City of Santa Monica. For Goldenvoice, it was a return to its roots, having produced shows at the Civic Auditorium in the past, and the festival was meant to boost the local economy, which has been affected by the country’s tourism dip, and revitalize the city.

Despite the cancellation, Goldenvoice, the promoter behind the festival and others such as Coachella and Just Like Heaven in Southern California, isn’t giving up on the event and stated that “plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027.”
