Monumental Sports & Entertainment is among those leading the charge with its renovation of Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena, the home of the NHL’s Capitals, Wizards of the NBA, the WNBA’s Mystics and the Georgetown men’s basketball team. MSE President of Venues Jordan Silberman and his team have overseen the first two phases of the $1 billion-plus construction thus far while operating as one of the busiest venues in the business.

“In the last 12 months, we’ve successfully hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball East Regional, welcoming more than 36,000 fans across two days; John Cena’s final WWE match, which drew over 19,000 fans and became one of the arena’s most successful fan-driven events; and Shane Gillis Live, which attracted almost 20,000 attendees and ranked among the 10 highest-attended shows in building history,” Silberman said. “These successes were driven by careful planning, strong cross-functional collaboration, and adaptability during a period of significant change.”

Successfully spinning so many plates is a remarkable feat for Silberman, who managed to work with multiple teams and accomplish different goals at once by “setting clear priorities, closely tracking progress and proactively managing dependencies.

That nimbleness and ability to see the big picture is why Capital One Arena has had a consistent presence on Pollstar’s Year End lists. And it may climb even higher up the venue charts when it ushers in a new era with its new look, which features more social and premium spaces as well as technological upgrades such as improved Wi-Fi through Monumental’s partnership with CISCO and signage that will help traffic flow.

“New food and beverage concepts, premium clubs, open concourses, and social gathering spaces will give guests more choice in how they spend their time before, during, and after an event,” Silberman says. “The goal is to make hospitality an integral part of the event itself. By offering greater variety, flexibility, and opportunities to gather, Capital One Arena will feel less like a venue fans simply pass through and more like a destination they can actively experience and discover.”
