A RECORD BREAKING YEAR

Not many stadium leaders have managed a World Cup Final, but Ron VanDeVeen has.

As President and CEO of MetLife Stadium, VanDeVeen wrapped up what he calls the busiest 18 months in the stadium’s history. It started with a record-setting 2025 and ended this summer with the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.

In 2025, the East Rutherford, New Jersey, stadium that is home to both the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL held 63 events and welcomed over 3.5 million guests. That included 23 sold-out concerts, 10 international soccer games, and the first-ever two-night WWE SummerSlam. Soon after, VanDeVeen and his team shifted their attention to the World Cup, spending six months getting ready to host eight matches, including the Final, and more than 645,000 fans from around the world.

“I consider it to be the most successful event in our history,” said VanDeVeen, who was named chief programming officer for the stadium after more than 10 years at the helm.

But for VanDeVeen, the real story is about the big events just as much as it is about the people who made them happen. “It was truly inspiring to support our team as they worked passionately to achieve goals that many would consider unattainable,” he said. This outlook matches his own motto: “A little extra effort separates the great from the good.”

During his time as leader, the stadium finished its biggest renovation since it opened. This included a $100 million investment in new 8MM high-resolution video boards, a rebuilt LED and digital signage system, a new 1,000-speaker audio system, expanded 5G, and a new IPTV system. He has also supported fan-focused upgrades, such as gluten-free and Halal menu options and sensory pods for guests with processing needs. At the same time, he led MetLife to earn LEED Gold certification and become the first NFL stadium to join the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework.

Looking ahead, VanDeVeen is now aiming for a Rugby World Cup bid.. “Events where the atmosphere is a major part of the product are always the most fun to work on,” he said.
