The new dates begin with a Jan. 24 show in New York at the Bowery Ballroom, which corresponds with the U.S. release of Nada Surf’s new album, The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy.

Nada Surf then heads for the West Coast to play San Diego’s 4th And B Jan. 28 and Seattle’s Tractor Tavern Feb. 2.

A European tour is scheduled Feb. 7-28 with shows in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Switzerland and Germany. 

The new album marks Nada Surf’s seventh studio album and first collection of original tunes since 2008’s Lucky. In 2010 the band released an album of covers called If I Had A Hi-Fi.

The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy was recorded in the band’s rehearsal space at bassist Daniel Lorca’s long-time loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

“We’ve always played faster and a little harder live, but we’d play so carefully in the studio,” singer/guitarist Matthew Caws said. “So with this album, we made a conscious decision to preserve what it felt like in the practice room, when you play with that new-song energy. Just embrace it and not worry whether we’re overdoing it, kind of get all the thinking out of the way.”

Caws noted that there was a downside to recording in the loft.

“We couldn’t do vocals late at night because the music from the bar downstairs would come through the floor.”
