Knickers For Liquor
The promotion, which took place at Dublin’s Tramco nightclub and invited revelers to swap their underwear for a free drink, has drawn flak from the local Rape Crisis Centre.
The centre is particularly concerned because three months ago the club was at the centre of an alleged sexual assault.
Jamie White from Midnight Promoters, which ran the promotion and said the offer is an example of “more exciting things to come,” told papers including the Evening Herald that there’d been no complaints from locals and the Rape Crisis Centre was “wrong” to say it was exploitative.
“It went down well. There was a positive response – not a huge amount took part, but those who did take part did so in good fashion,” he said.
He said the nightclub has undergone a change in staff and management since the alleged assault, which is still being investigated by local police.
A 15-year-old girl claims that in June she was sexually assaulted at a disco held at Tramco, which is at Rathmines, a suburb on the south side of the city.
The Herald revealed that during the “knickers for liquor” promotion run at Tramco Sept. 2, hundreds of youngsters exposed themselves and posed in a sexually explicit manner to get free drinks.
Ellen O’Malley Dunlop from the Rape Crisis Centre says she stands by what she said. She described the promotion as “insensitive.”
“It’s clubs like this which are objectifying sexual behaviour. People are entitled to have fun but this is totally exploitative and objectifying,” she explained.
