Morrissey In The U.S.A.

If there’s anything for certain in this crazy mixed-up world it’s that Morrissey rarely holds back his thoughts regardless of whom he might offend. While performing in Poland in July, Moz commented about the domestic terrorist attacks in Norway while introducing the Smiths song “Meat Is Murder.”

“We live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead [sic],” devout vegetarian Morrissey told the crowd, according to London’s Telegraph newspaper. “Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried S*** every day.”

Needless to say, some people were not amused. But it wasn’t the first time this year that Morrissey’s remarks managed to tick-off somebody somewhere. During the days leading up to the wedding of England’s Prince William to Kate Middleton, the singer let people know what he thought of his country’s queen and her brood.

“I don’t think the so-called royal family speak for England now and I don’t think England needs them,” Morrissey told BBC Radio 5 Live listeners. “I do seriously believe that they are the benefit scroungers and nothing else. I don’t believe they have any purpose whatsoever.”

So you never know what’s going to happen when Morrissey comes to town. His upcoming U.S. tour begins at Chicago’s Congress Theater Nov. 10. Other dates include San Antonio at the Majestic Theater Nov. 14; Phoenix at the Orpheum Theatre Nov. 20; Las Vegas at The Cosmopolitan Nov. 25; Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Center Nov. 26; and Oakland, Calif., at the Fox Theater Dec. 1.

Morrissey also has a few gigs in Mexico, playing Mexico City’s Plaza Condesa Dec. 7-8; Puebla at Complejo Cultural Siglo 21 Dec. 10; and Guadalajara at Teatro Diana Dec. 12-13.
