People magazine reports that the 75-year-old was diagnosed with the neurological disorder six months ago after suffering short-term memory loss for years.

Campbell and his wife Kim decided to make the diagnosis public because they wanted fans to be clued in on what the award-winning musician is going through.

“Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer,” Kim told the magazine. “But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn’t want people to think, ‘What’s the matter with him? Is he drunk?’”

According to People, Campbell is planning a final round of live performances for sometime this fall.

“I still love making music,” Campbell said. “And I still love performing for my fans. I’d like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin.”

Campbell is scheduled to perform July 15 in Biloxi, Miss., at IP Casino, Resort & Spa, followed by an Aug. 31 gig at Toronto’s CNE Bandshell. He’s also set to play a two-night stand Dec. 2-3 in Branson, Mo., at Tri-Lakes Center.

His upcoming album, Ghost On The Canvas, is being marketed by his label as “the final studio album.” Ghost On The Canvas is set for release Aug. 30.
