Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt are just a few of the music legends playing a special concert in August benefiting Japan earthquake relief efforts as well as non-nuclear groups throughout the world.

Set for Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., the concert will also feature performances by John Hall, Doobie Brothers, Jason Mraz, Tom Morello, Kitaro, Sweet Honey In The Rock, Jonathan Wilson and more.

Proceeds will be directed to Musicians United For Safe Energy (MUSE). If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Browne, Nash, Raitt and Hall founded MUSE in 1979 and one of the organization’s first projects was the series of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden called “No Nukes” that was immortalized in the film and on the album of the same name. Proceeds from the upcoming August concert will help aid Japan’s disaster relief efforts as well as promote safe, alternative energy on a global scale.

The wheels started turning for the upcoming August show shortly after the March earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan and resulted in multiple meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

“The disaster in Fukushima is not only a disaster for Japan. It is a global disaster,” Jackson Browne said in a statement announcing the concert. “We come together now across cultural boundaries, political and generational boundaries, to call for changes in the way we use energy, and in the ways we conduct the search for solutions to the problems facing humanity. We join with the people of Japan, and people everywhere who believe in a non-nuclear future.”

The concert gets underway at 3 p.m. and promises to be a family-friendly affair with children ages 10 and under admitted free on the lawn as long as they’re accompanied by a ticket-wielding adult. Tickets go on sale June 11 at 10 a.m. Gold and silver circle seats are available through the Guacamole Fund. For more information, visit the MusiciansUnited4SafeEnergy.com and NukeFree.org.
