George Clinton Hospitalized

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic have been forced to change their weekend plans because Clinton is in the hospital.

TMZ.com reported yesterday that the 69-year-old singer was hospitalized for a staph infection in one of his legs following a routine check-up.

“He will be just fine,” a representative for Clinton told the gossip site. “Thank you for all your prayers and concern.”

While Clinton recovers from the infection, he and the Parliament Funkadelic have postponed or canceled a number of shows scheduled for this weekend.

The group was set to play Ortley Beach, N.J., tonight at Joey Harrison’s Surf Club. Although the gig is still on the venue’s website, Ticketmaster.com notes that the event has been postponed and the show date is now listed as TBA. Ticketholders will be contacted with the new date and time. Fans also have the option of requesting a refund. 

Clinton and the gang have also backed out of the group’s May 28 appearance at the at the Comcast Theatre in Hartfort, Conn. A post on the festival’s website notes that in addition to Clinton’s cancellation, the Dum Dum Girls will no longer perform on Sunday because of a death in the family.

Lastly, Clinton and co. will no longer be able to make it to their May 29 set at  “Hometown Holidays” at the Town Center in Rockville, Md. Taj Mahal will fill the band’s slot at the free concert.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic’s next show on the books is May 31 at B.B. King Blues Club in New York. Clinton’s next solo show is June 10 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Mich.
