‘Glee’ Targets 16 Cities
Appearing on “Glee Live! In Concert!” will be Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine).
Aside from all the singing, dancing and exuberance that goes into each episode of “Glee,” the TV show represents a somewhat different professional life for its cast members. Most actors and actresses on TV series find other work, such as movies or guesting on television programs when their own shows are between production schedules. But “Glee” cast members take their characters on the road, thus keeping the show alive between seasons. After all, it’s not like anyone expects Mark Harmon to deliver a stage production of NCIS when the CBS program is on hiatus.
The tour starts spreading the “Glee” in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Event Center May 21. Other destinations include San Jose at the HP Pavilion May 24; Sacramento at ARCO Arena May 22; Anaheim at the Honda Center May 27; Los Angeles at Staples Center May 29 and San Diego at the Valley View Casino Center May 29.
June brings “Glee” to the heartland, playing Minneapolis (June 1), Indianapolis (June 2) and Chicago (June 3). The East Coast is next with shows in Boston (June 6) and Philadelphia (June 8) before hitting Toronto, Detroit, Cleveland, E. Rutherford, N.J., and Uniondale, N.Y.
What’s up with “Glee Live! In Concert!” this time around? Expect performances of some of the show’s memorable moments from the first two seasons, including “Empire State Of Mind,” “Toxic” and “My Life Would Suck Without You,” as well as show anthem “Don’t Stop Believin’.” All springing from the mind of “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy.
“The cast and I were so moved by the love and enthusiasm of our fans at last year’s concerts that we knew we had to do it again,” Murphy said in the announcement detailing the tour. “There is something magical about thousands of ‘Gleeks’ coming together to share a special night with our cast, and this tour is one way we can thank them for their unbelievable support from the beginning.”
American Express cardholders get first crack at tickets through a presale beginning Feb. 11 and general onsales for most shows begin Feb. 19. Boston and Toronto go up Feb. 18 and Sacramento’s onsale begins Feb. 19. For more information, visit the tour’s website.
