Foo Fighters – The Movie

After premiering at the Austin, Texas, festival, the documentary is set to hit theaters this spring. The 2011 SXSW festival takes place March 11-20.

The film was directed by Oscar/Emmy winner James Moll and produced by Spitfire Pictures in association with Allentown Productions. Exclusive Media Group and RCA Records handled financing.

The documentary takes viewers through the band’s 16-year-history including an in-depth, behind the scenes look at the recording process for the group’s seventh album.

In a statement Grohl explained that the band provided hours of interviews and gave Moll “mountains” of exclusive footage.

“In October of 1994, I walked into Robert Lang’s Seattle studio with a guitar, a drum set, a bass, and 14 songs I thought nobody would ever hear. 5 days later I walked out with the first Foo Fighters record. 16 years and 7 studio albums later, with the help of Academy Award winning director James Moll, we’re finally able to tell the story of how that one demo cassette turned into the band that we are today,” Grohl said.

“This is our side of the story. From the first rehearsal, to the completion of our new album, it’s all there. … For me it’s like watching my life flash in front of my eyes. Except with a mouth full of popcorn and Hot Tamales. Hope you dig it. It’s been a wild 16 years … here’s to 16 more.”

Foo Fighters’ still untitled self-studio album is set for release April 12 as the follow-up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. The new album was recorded in Grohl’s garage on analog.

“No computers. No auto-tune. No drum machines. Just real rock and roll,” Grohl said in the statement.

The new release was produced by Butch Vig, who is best known as the drummer for Garbage and as the producer behind Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind. Look out for surprise guests appearances from artists such as former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.
