Rape Charges Against Mexican Pop Singer Dismissed
A Mexican judge has ruled there is not enough evidence to try Mexican pop singer Kalimba on rape charges, and ordered him released.
The attorney general of the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo says he disagrees with the ruling, but is not planning to appeal it.
The charges alleged that a 17-year-old girl was raped on Dec. 19 at a Quintana Roo hotel.
Francisco Alor said Thursday the judge could have ordered a trial on lesser charges of corrupting a minor, because the girl was drinking.
Kalimba denies the accusations. The case received front-page coverage in Mexican newspapers and has been a staple of talk shows.
