Huey Lewis And The News Takes ‘Soulsville’ On The Road
Sure, the band that was an MTV mainstay in the mid-1980s tours regularly. However, this year’s outing scheduled to begin later this month will mark the first time the band has played New York City in almost a decade.
Touring in support of the band’s 2010 album, Soulsville, a tribute to the artists who recorded for Stax Records back in the day, the journey begins Jan. 21 in Lake Charles, La., at the L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort. Other stops include Memphis at Minglewood Hall Jan.27; Orlando at Sea World Feb. 12; Las Vegas at the Green Valley Casino Resort March 12; Hammond, Ind., at The Venue At Horseshoe Casino March 18; Milwaukee at the Bradley Center March 19 and Portsmouth, Ohio, at the Vern Riffe Center For The Arts April 16.
Fast forwarding a couple of months finds the band playing the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, Tenn., June 10.
Huey Lewis And The News play their first show in New York in eight years when the band performs at The Gramercy Theatre Feb. 9. Wanna bet on which of the band’s big 1980s hits will be a must-play at that gig?
PBS will tape the band’s Feb. 8 show in Hartford, Conn., at the Belding Theater at The Bushnell, to air on Connecticut Public Broadcasting later this year. So far there’s no word about a national PBS airing, but if you politely contact your local PBS outlet, we’re sure they’ll jump on the chance to beam Huey Lewis And The News into your living room. Especially if it’s pledge-drive time.
