Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch Still Has Cancer
The statement, titled “Hello My Friends,” was posted on the hip hop trio’s website Friday at 9 p.m.
“While I’m grateful for all the positive energy people are sending my way, reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated,” Yauch wrote. “I’m continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future.”
On Jan. 6 BBC Radio 1 posted a story indicating that Yauch had fully recovered from cancer. BBC reported that Yauch had gotten the “all clear following his illness.” Mike D was quoted as saying “we’re really happy about it.”
Yarch, who handles vocals and bass for the group and is otherwise known as MCA, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland in July 2009. He had surgery to remove the tumor that month.
The band was forced to cancel their upcoming tour dates and push back the release of their new album.
BBC Radio 1 reported that Beastie Boys plan to release the second part of the double album Hot Sauce Committee this spring as a follow-up to 2007’s The Mix-Up.
Mike D told BBC Radio 1 the band is “open” to touring but it depends on Yauch’s recovery.
In the meantime, Mike D said the group is finishing a “big” video.
“I know people don’t make big videos any more but we made a big video,” Mike D said. “It’s not even a video, it’s a film-eo. A cinematic, short film.”
Beastie Boys last performed in June 2009.
