The Armenian-American rock band broke the news with the following statement on its website:

“We are excited to announce that System will be playing some dates together in 2011. We also want to thank you for your loyalty and support, not only to System Of A Down, but to all of our solo efforts as well. We have no master plan of sorts – we are playing these shows simply because we want to play together again as a band and for you, our amazing fans.”

The European gigs take place in June, kicking off with a June 2 headline show at Fiera De Milano in Milan, Italy. Dates are on the books through a June 19 performance at Provinssirock at Tornava Festival Park in Seinajoki, Finland.

System Of A Down will also play Germany’s Rock im Park (June 4) and Rock am Ring (June 5) in addition to Switzerland’s Greenfield Festival (June 9), the United Kingdom’s Download Festival (June 11), Austria’s Nova Rock Festival (June 13) and Sweden’s Metaltown Festival (June 17).

Fans can also catch the band in Paris (June 6) and Berlin (June 15).

Tickets to Rock in Park, Rock am Ring, and Nova Rock Festival are on sale now. On-sales for the remainder of the performances begin Dec. 1.

The group last played together in August 2006 at Ozzfest in West Palm Beach, Fla.

In May 2006 guitarist Daron Malakian told MTV.com SOAD planned to go on “hiatus” following the Ozzfest performance.

“We’re not breaking up,” Malakian said. “If that was the case, we wouldn’t be doing this Ozzfest … We’re going to take a very long break after Ozzfest and do our own things. We’ve done System for over 10 years, and I think it’s healthy for us to get away from it for a while and come back to it later on.”
