Waco No-Show Spurs Riot
A last-minute Webbie cancellation at The Ranch in Waco Nov. 20 ended in a riot when an angry mob ravaged the venue, leading to police injuries and an arrest.
According to various accounts from clubgoers, people started turning over tables and shouting when the promoter “Moch” announced the rapper wasn’t going to make the date.
“People in line I guess they weren’t getting their money back so people started jumping the counter and fighting,” a woman told the local News Channel 25.
“We heard gun shots and we don’t know if somebody was shooting in the air or at somebody, but everybody was ducking and running,” another added.
A post on Webbie’s Twitter page reportedly announced the show had been canceled at 10:30 p.m. However, some in attendance told the station the announcement that Webbie was in the hospital after suffering a seizure didn’t come until nearly 2:00 a.m.
When police arrived, tear gas was used inside the building. Two officers were reportedly injured, suffering a broken rib and sprained wrist, respectively, as they attempted to arrest a clubgoer.
This isn’t the first time the rapper has missed a performance. Webbie and Lil Boosie were sued for $1 million in 2007 for blowing off two shows in Baltimore.
Local radio personality Edward Graham told News Channel 25 the Nov. 20 excuse sounds very similar to what occurred during the previous cancellations.
“From what I heard Webbie has a history of seizures,” Graham said. “I think it’s very ironic that it always takes place right before a show.”
