Men Aloud Return To America
Having already completed two U.S. tours, Men Aloud (known as Only Men Aloud in the U.K.) will be all over PBS during the holidays as their TV special “Men Aloud: Live From Wales” helps drive public television pledge drives. Filmed at the Wales Millennium Center, the men’s choir is joined by special guests Bonnie Tyler, opera star Bryn Terfel and London’s John Owen Jones.
Just what is Men Aloud? That, is other than a bunch of guys all singing at the same time? Glad you asked.
Formed by Tim Rhys-Evans in 2000, Men Aloud quickly became a sensation in the United Kingdom, especially after winning the BBC1 program “Last Choir Standing.” Seems people can’t get enough of the group’s lush vocal harmonies as the lads perform everything from Welsh choir songs to pop songs to Broadway tunes. So far, the group has released two albums, the self-titled 2008 debut and 2009’s Band Of Brothers which won the Classical Brit “Album Of the Year” award.
And Men Aloud just might be coming to your town. The group’s 2011 tour begins in Somerville, Mass., at the Somerville Theatre March 4. Other stops include Toronto (March 8), Philadelphia (March 9), Los Angeles (March 18) and Portland, Ore. (March 20). For more information, click here for the group’s website.
