Security Concerns Force Arcade Fire To Cancel Concert
The Canadian indie rock band was scheduled to perform Nov. 18 at Pavilhao Atlantico in Lisbon, Portugal.
In a statement posted to its Facebook page Arcade Fire said it was being forced to cancel the show because of “security concerns” related to the NATO Summit in Lisbon Nov. 19-20.
“The band [is] disappointed to be forced into this situation but there’s nothing more we can do. We will refund all tickets and we’ll endeavour to get back to see our fans [in] Portugal as soon as we can.”
The band noted that it tried to reschedule the show for Nov. 17 but “this was deemed not feasible by the Summit organizers,” according to Arcade Fire’s Twitter page.
Tickets are being refunded at point of purchase beginning Nov. 3.
The European trek will now begin Nov. 20 at Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, Spain. The tour also includes performances in France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Arcade Fire is touring in support of its third studio album, The Suburbs. The record was released in August on Merge.
