The Flaming Skeletons March Again
The March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons takes place Oct. 23 in the Lips’ hometown of Oklahoma City in the downtown Bricktown district, near the band’s namesake Flaming Lips Alley.
The skeletons will be joined in this year’s parade by festive floats, (in)appropriately adorned cars, walking groups and plenty of surprises.
To participate in the march, fans must order a costume bundle pack from the official Flaming Lips store.
If you still have your old costume from a previous year’s parade, you can join in on the festivities by just purchasing a T-shirt and torch for $20.
The costume bundle includes a costume, T-shirt and torch for $40. Participants must be 18 years or older and sign a waver because each skeleton will carry a torch with real fire.
Costumes are available in standard and large. Fans that pick the standard costume bundle can choose between a small or medium T-shirt. The large costumes include a large or x-large shirt.
Include a valid name, email, mailing address and phone number at checkout because you will be contacted at a later date with information about when and where to meet up.
Participants must have time to march their hearts out for up to two hours Oct. 23.
And one more tip – even skeletons with no use for a watch need to show up on time. Fans who don’t show up at the assigned time to pick up their outfit will forfeit their fee and will not receive a refund.
On Saturday the Lips play Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park, followed by a round of shows in Florida. Gigs include Jannus Live in Saint Petersburg (Oct. 13), House of Blues in Lake Buena Vista (Oct. 14), St. Augustine Amphitheatre (Oct. 15) and Sunset Cove Amphitheatre in Boca Raton (Oct. 16).
In November the band has lined up performances in Singapore, China and Japan.
Wayne Coyne and co. will close out the year Dec. 27 by playing Belly Up Aspen in Colorado.
Next July the Lips join All Tomorrow’s Parties in London to perform the band’s 1999 classic album The Soft Bulletin in its entirety.
