Big Day Out 2011 Lineup
Big Day Out takes place in six different cities between Jan. 21 through Feb.6. The event kicks off Jan. 21at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. The rest of the dates take place in Australia. On Jan. 23 the fest heads for Parklands in Gold Coast. Then on Jan. 26 it’s on to Olympic Park Showgrounds in Sydney, followed by the Jan. 30 show at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. After the Feb. 4 show at RA&HS Showgrounds in Adelaide, the festival closes out Feb. 6 at Claremont Showgrounds in Perth.
“2010 is a very hard act to follow, so for 2011 it felt right to turn up the heat musically and visually,” Big Day Out festival organizers said in a statement released today as the official first announcement.
“This is by far our biggest and most diverse announcement ever. As well as the many incredible first timers on offer, we are enthusiastically welcoming back several iconic BDO veterans. They are some of the most exciting and uncompromising artists performing live today. We believe this combination of extremes for 2011 will create a spectacular event. From the heaviest to the sweetest sounds in the world today, this will be a sensory overload not to be missed.”
The first round of artists also features The Black Keys, Deftones, John Butler Trio, Grinderman, Wolfmother, LCD Soundsystem, Lupe Fiasco, Primal Scream, Die Antwoord, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Andrew W.K., Ratatat and Airbourne.
In addition, the lineup includes Booka Shade, The Jim Jones Revue, Birds Of Tokyo, Little Red, Gyroscope, Vitalic, Bliss N Eso, Angus & Julia Stone, Plan B, Pnau, The Bloody Beetroots, Death Crew 77, Crystal Castles, Screamadelica Live and Dead Letter Circus.
Fans will also see performances from Blue King Brown, The Naked And Famous, Operator Please, Children Collide, Gypsy & The Cat, Will Styles, Kid Kenobi & MC Shureshock, Lowrider, Kids Of 88, Sampology and CSS.
Tickets to the Sydney fest go on sale Oct. 6 and Gold Coast’s event goes on sale Oct. 7. Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth tickets all go on sale Oct. 8.
“You’re all VIPs (Very Important Punters). We don’t do elitist or bogus pre-sales: we’re either on sale or we’re not,” Big Day Out organizers say.
Tickets range in price from $150 AUD ($145) to $155 AUD ($150).
