Los Angeles Gets Air For One Night

Air returns to Southern California as the French electronic pop duo slots a one-off in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium Oct. 23. Quadron and Juliette Commagere will also appear.

We wouldn’t blame you if you’re feeling a touch of déjà vu. Air, which consists of Nicolas Godin and JB Dunckel, played the U.S. and Canada in March, marking the first time the group toured North America in more than three years. Last time through SoCal the band played the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. and appeared on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”

Shaving Dates From The Schedule

Billy Joe Shaver has canceled all August dates so he can recuperate from surgery. The country rocker recently went under the blade for two tears in his bicep ligament. Plus, last month doctors inserted a stent in a coronary artery. So he’s due for some time off.

“I think God came down and did this to me so that I’d rest up a while,” Shaver said, adding “If I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself. But please tell everyone I will be back as soon as I mend up.”

Last month Shaver pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor gun charge resulting from when he shot and wounded a man outside a drinking establishment in Lorena, Texas. Although a jury acquitted Shaver of aggravated assault in April, the artist still faced charges for illegal possession of a firearm. After the no contest plea, the judge fined Shaver $1,000.

Europe Does U.K.

Swedish rock band Europe will tour of the United Kingdom, playing mostly O2 venues.

The tour begins in Glasgow at ABC1 Feb. 17 before doing the O2 thing, playing 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London Feb. 19; O2 Academy Oxford Feb. 21; O2 Academy Bournemouth Feb. 22; O2 Academy Bristol Feb. 23; O2 Academy Leeds Feb. 26 and O2 Academy Newcastle Feb. 27. The band also plays the Manchester Academy Feb. 25.

Formed in 1979, Europe gained a U.S. following with its third album, The Final Countdown, which sold more than 3 million copies in the States and resulted in the title track becoming a hit single. Fans of the Fox Television comedy series “Arrested Development” know that part-time illusionist Gob Bluth used the song for background music whenever he was performing.

Europe also has a hit CD on its hands, 2009’s Last Look At Eden, which members credit as being responsible for the band’s latest round of success.

“You can’t make this stuff up,” Europe vocalist Joey Tempest said. “Our latest CD Last Look At Eden has really turned things around for us. We’re going to bring something very special when we return to the U.K. in February 2011. We’re having the time of our lives right now and the audience will experience a Europe-camp that’s on fire!”
