First a little history for those of you not up on P-star’s history with Rock Sugar: Back in early March, our esteemed News Editor, Joe Reinartz, stumbled across the band in a podcast by comedian Mike Schmidt while doing his daily “research.”

Several Pollstar.com posts later, vocalist Jess Harnell – who’s better known to the juice box set as the voice of Wakko Warner in the WB cartoon “Animaniacs” – and the rest of the group had landed an agent and been the subject of an in-depth “expose.”

Cut to the present and the Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic which will descend on Norman, Okla., May 21-22.

The annual event and auction raises funds for the singer’s foundation which assists severly ill children and their families through its financial support of the OK Kids Korral, a 16-room guest lodge for pediatric cancer patients and their families on the grounds of Oklahoma University Medical Center.

Keith will emcee the May 21 dinner and auction, with memorabilia from celebs like Miley Cyrus, Brett Favre, Darius Rucker, Garth Brooks, Michael Phelps, Derek Jeter, Maroon 5 and many others up for grabs.

The evening’s entertainment will be provided by David Allan Coe and – gosh, they grow up so fast – Rock Sugar.

Although golf team spots for Saturday’s tournament are sold out, tickets for Friday’s dinner are still available.
