Ed Chernoff, lead attorney for the Houston-based doctor, told the Los Angeles Times Murray is in L.A. and ready to turn himself over to authorities if necessary.

“I don’t have any specific information that leads me to believe he is going to be charged this week,” Chernoff explained to the Times. “But if he is, we’ve made it clear he’s available to turn himself in.”

However, TMZ reports that the Los Angeles County District Attorney “has a criminal complaint drafted and ready to file” charging Murray with involuntary manslaughter.

An autopsy done after Jackson died suddenly in June classified the singer’s death as a homicide and listed the cause of death as “acute propofol intoxication.”

If convicted, the physician, who has acknowledged administering the powerful anesthetic to Jackson the day he died, could face up to four years in prison.

Jackson’s family is reportedly unhappy with the light punishment facing Murray and is lobbying for an increased sentence.
