Wanna Pick Some Grammys?

Ever since the National Recording Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the noms for 2009, we’ve been conducting our own balloting to determine who is really Grammy worthy.

Sure, music industry professionals pick the Grammys, but when it comes down to intuition, knowledge and an appreciation for true talent and great accomplishments, it’s obvious that Pollstar.com users are eons ahead of recording industry execs, record producers and label VPs.

Today we present three categories for your voting pleasure. First up is “Best Pop Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocals” which the Academy describes as being “for established duos or groups, with vocals. Singles or tracks only.”

In this category you’ll find everything from The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” to a live recording of Daryl Hall & John Oates performing their 1976 hit “Sarah Smile.”

We’re also voting on “Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.” This is the award for collaborations where participating artists don’t normally perform together. Like Willie Nelson and Norah Jones, who are up for their version of the old chestnut “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Other nominated performers who usually don’t appear together include Rosanne Cash and Bruce Springsteen for their recording of “Sea of Heartbreak” and Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat for their recording of “Lucky.”

The remaining two categories we’re voting on today are for instrumentals – Best Pop Instrumental Performance, which is for singles and tracks only, and Best Pop Instrumental Album which pretty much describes the selections.

We’ll post the results the Friday before the Grammy Awards, which are scheduled for Jan. 31 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and will air on CBS.
