The AP’s Top 10 Albums Of 2009

And the Associated Press’ top 10 list does not disappoint. At the top of the heap is Sam & Ruby’s The Here and the Now, followed by Norah Jones’ The Fall and The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D.

Mariah Carey snagged fourth place in the AP listing for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel; Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 came in at fifth place and The Bird and the Bee placed sixth for Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future.

Seventh place went to Maxwell for BLACKsummer’snight, eighth to Playing For Change for Songs From Around The World, ninth to Zee Avi’s self-titled album and at No. 10 is guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela for 11:11.

Of the No. 1 pick – Sam and Ruby’s The Here and the Now – AP music writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody wrote:

“This Nashville duo has been deemed exotic because of their ethnicity – she’s a black woman from Ghana, he’s a white dude from Wisconsin. But their blend of acoustic folk, country and soul sounds homespun, as though they’ve been making music together for a lifetime. And they’ve reached near-perfection with this CD.”

Moody provides commentary for every top 10 pick, describing Jones’ The Fall as “ a listen worth taking again and again,” and The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. as an album that “keeps you on your feet from beginning to end, with frenetic grooves to get your body moving, and a few downbeat songs to help you catch your breath.”
