Les Paul Dies
Les Paul, whose innovations with the solid-body guitar made the distinctive sound of rock ‘n’ roll possible, died Aug. 13 at 94, according to a representative.
His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as “sound on sound” and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Jeff Beck in 1988, just one of numerous honors he received over the years, Paul had a lengthy career that spanned broadcasting, performing, composition and that iconic guitar that bears his name.
According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.
