Lil’ Wayne Sues Producer
Last year Lil’ Wayne was sued for not securing permission to secure the rights to sample Karma-Ann Swanepoel’s song “Once.” Wayne used an excerpt of the song for his own “I Feel Like Dying,” which didn’t appear on his hit album, The Carter III.
Wayne, however, did perform “I Feel Like Dying” at concerts where the rapper promoted the album, and allowed fans to download the song for free from his Web site.
Lawyers for the company that published Swanepoel’s song – Urband & Lazar Music Publishing – say Wayne’s actions link the song to Tha Carter III, and last month a federal magistrate ordered the rapper to turn over financial records for the top-selling album.
Now Wayne is suing the company that produced “I Feel like Dying,” claiming it was responsible for failing to get the appropriate licenses for the track.
That would be Rebel Rock Productions of Coconut Creek, Florida. At least, the Florida town is the company’s last known location.
However, Rebel Rock has not responded to Wayne’s lawsuit, doesn’t have a lawyer named in court records and a telephone number listed for the company has been disconnected. Hmmm… Maybe somebody should tell Wayne about Google.
