Fans Step Up For Natalie Cole
Cole appeared on Larry King’s CNN show Tuesday night to explain she is in need of a kidney transplant and was shocked by the response. Before she had even finished the interview, offers of help from fans came pouring in.
King handed a thick stack of paper to Cole.
“These are all e-mails from dozens – dozens of people offering to be tested to see if they can match, who want to give you a kidney,” King said.
Cole stared at the papers for a moment.
“There are some great human beings out there. That’s all I can say,” Cole said.
Cole told King she believes her hepatitis C is a result of her past drug use and that chemotherapy for the disease caused her kidneys to fail.
“I couldn’t breath. I – I went into – literally, my kidneys stopped functioning. They stopped, you know, processing the fluid that was starting to build up in my body.”
The singer explained that she has been on dialysis three days a week and is currently on “a very long list” for a donor kidney.
Despite the illness, Cole has manage to continue touring.
“I have been on dialysis in Istanbul, Milan, Indonesia, Manila, London. It’s – it’s amazing,” Cole said.
