Radiohead Not Worried About Miley Ruining Them
“I’m like, these are the people I really want to meet,” Cyrus said on the Phoenix-based Johnjay and Rich morning radio show March 3 about the chance to meet Radiohead at the Grammy Awards. “I’d freak out. They’re my rock gods. These are the only people I would cry over,” according to MTV.com.
She said she told her manager to pull as many strings as needed to make her rock ’n’ roll dreams come true. The 16-year-old’s manager asked the band for the favor, telling them “Miley’s really obsessed.”
Apparently Thom Yorke & co. weren’t impressed by her devotion. Cyrus said the band told her manager, “We don’t really do that.”
Sorry kid. Just because you’re both performers at the Grammys doesn’t mean you’re going to be BFFs. Radiohead can’t be seen chilling with Miley Cyrus. Do you know what that would do for their credibility? I mean, if you’re such a fan of the band, you should know this already. They are too cool for school.
Oh, and I don’t think the title of Radiohead’s 1998 rockumentary – “Meeting People Is Easy” – is meant to be taken literally.
Cyrus didn’t take the news well.
She said the snub was “obnoxious” and that she was so disappointed because “they’re the reason I love music. … I had already texted all my friends that my life will be complete [if I got to meet them].”
Don’t worry, she punished the band for being so rude.
At this year’s Grammy Awards in February, she didn’t even stick around to watch Radiohead perform.
“I left ’cause I was so upset. I wasn’t going to watch. Stinkin’ Radiohead!” she said. “I’m gonna ruin them, I’m going to tell everyone.”
I love what one of the commentors wrote on music blog Stereogum:
“So by ‘destroy’ does that mean she’s going to start covering their songs in concerts?” Posted by: Marko at 03/05/09 11:57 AM
Ouch! Sick burn. (Do people even say “sick burn” anymore? Ha.)
A representative for Radiohead shared the band’s feelings on the matter with Us Weekly.
“When Miley grows up, she’ll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement,” the band rep said in a statement, according to MTV.com.
Kanye West says he was also snubbed backstage at the Grammys by Yorke.
In comments cut from a recent taping of VH1’s “Storytellers,” West said he was really offended because he looks up to Radiohead as one of his creative rivals.
“So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the f— down,” West said, according to Reuters.
Man, how could he be so heartless?!
Yorke blogged about his new enemies on the band’s Web site, Dead Air Space.
“Wish us all a safe journey,” Yorke wrote “If you still like us and you’re not one of those people I have managed to offend by doing nothing, xx.”
Aww, how could you stay mad at Yorke? He ended his letter with two hugs! Or is it kisses?
