Maddy’s Chile Reception
Retired Roman Catholic Cardinal Jorge Medina of Santiago, Chile, took a moment out of his Dec. 10 homily during a mass for late dictator Augusto Pinochet to take a swipe at Madonna.
Medina accused the singer, who will play the first of two shows at the city’s National Stadium tonight, of bringing out the worst in people.

“This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts,” Medina said.
Hundreds of Madonna fans camped outside the venue for three days to score a choice seat at the show, including one man who told local reporters he quit his job to come because his boss wouldn’t give him the time off.
Medina also said some of those seeking justice for human rights violations under Pinochet, who was responsible for the deaths of more than 3,000 dissidents during his 1973-1990 rule, were really out for revenge.
