The band is completing a run of the E.U. that includes shows in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and the U.K.

The first leg of The Mars Volta’s U.S. trek kicks off April 1 at House of Blues in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., and features stops at The Tabernacle in Atlanta (April 5), The Pageant in Saint Louis (April 17), the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago (April 20) and Roy Wilkins Auditorium in Saint Paul, Minn. (April 21).

Goliath, which debuted last month, is a concept album that spins the story of a Ouija board with the ominous nickname of Soothsayer owned by vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala.

According to a statement on The Mars Volta’s web site, the board – which started out as a harmless diversion during the band’s last tour – became a distraction and then an obsession, nearly destroying the band and its members before it was buried in an undisclosed location by guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.

Here’s the group making its late night television debut on “Late Show with David Letterman” in January with a performance of the first single from Goliath, “Wax Simulacra.”
