Has there ever been a band as unique as Three Dog Night? They were a songwriter’s band although they didn’t write their own material. Instead, they cherry-picked the best from the up-and-coming songwriters of the late ’60s and early ’70s, like Randy Newman, Laura Nyro, Paul Williams and Harry Nillsson. Heck, they even recorded “Your Song” before Elton did. New dates for the band include Harris, MI, on Feb. 23, Shawnee, OK, on April 5 and Lincoln City, OR, on Nov. 21 & 22.

Sugarland’s new dates include stops in Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Cities include Honolulu, Valdosta, Cravin and Waikoloa.

Travis Tritt fills in a few open spots on his touring calendar today. New shows include Grand Prairie, Alberta, on June 27, Glen Allen, Virginia, on July 11 and Rama, Ontario, on August 15.

Look for OneRepublic to play Tempe, AZ, on February 15, Detroit, MI, on February 22 and New York City on February 29. Other February dates include Sauget, IL, Indianapolis, IN and Allentown, PA.

This Day In Music History … (from Associated Press)

In 1917, the Original Dixieland Jazz Band recorded “Darktown Strutters’ Ball.” Some historians consider this to be the earliest commercially made jazz record.

In 1969, the Beatles gave their last public performance. It was a free lunchtime concert on the roof of the London building that housed their Apple Corps Limited headquarters. One of the results was the song “Get Back,” released as a single. “Get Back” and other tracks from the performance were included in the Let It Be album, released in the spring of 1970.
