King has a few surprises in store for fans this year: She’ll be singing on several songs, and she’ll have a band playing with her for the first time.

Drummer Matt Hankle, a veteran of the Blue Man Group, and New York-based keyboardist Dave Archer will perform with King on the tour, which launches September 7 at NYC’s Knitting Factory.

The trek will hit 35 cities across North America, with a portion of proceeds going to cervical cancer site Popsmear.org. Singer/songwriter Christine Baze, who founded the Yellow Umbrella Tour and Popsmear, will also perform on all dates.

The tour wraps October 23 at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club. Prior to the trek, King will play one-offs in Los Angeles and Springfield, Mass.

King’s first two albums were focused on her acoustic guitar wizardry, but her voice is a prevalent instrument on her new album, …Until We See Red. She also makes extensive use of electric guitar and pedal steel for the first time.

King enlisted Chicago producer John McEntire (Tortoise, Stereolab, The Sea & Cake) for the disc, which she financed herself without the aid of a label.
